Youth Program Specialist

EarthDance Organic Farm School is seeking applicants for our newest AmeriCorps position.  EarthDance sustainably grows food, farmers, and community, one small farm at a time, through hands-on education and delicious experiences.  EarthDance seeks to realize needed change in our nation’s food system by engaging individuals from all walks of life in sustainable agriculture.  The successful candidate for this position will work with the young people ages 5-19 of EarthDance’s YEAH (Youth Exploring Agriculture & Health) Program to cultivate fresh food, raise nutrition awareness and cooking skills, and empower youth to become food leaders.

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Leading farm field trips and service projects for youth, and engaging attendees in lessons about farming, gardening, and healthy eating
  • Facilitating food and farm-centered job training for teens of the Work Experience Program partnership between Ferguson-Florissant School District and EarthDance
  • Working with volunteer nutrition educators to select, implement and compile curriculum for nutrition/cooking lessons for students of various age levels
  • Working with volunteers to implement Catch Healthy Habits (lessons on healthy eating and fun physical activity) for youth at EarthDance
  • Introducing students and the broader community to fresh, local, tasty produce at in-school and farmers market events
  • Developing food leadership skills in older students by training teens to facilitate food and farming education for community members
  • Documenting youth programs curricula
  • Assisting with assessment and evaluation of Youth Program curriculum and outcomes

Required Qualifications

  • Experience teaching and/or coaching youth
  • Public speaking experience
  • Some farm/ gardening experience
  • Demonstrated strong time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a demanding, high-energy environment and manage multiple tasks and priorities, while maintaining a sense of humor
  • Experience working effectively as part of a team
  • Professional, friendly, and enthusiastic personality
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example, with a strong work ethic, compassion and integrity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with low-income and diverse communities
  • Proficiency with Windows Microsoft Office, Google Drive and Google Calendar

 

Volunteer Coordinator

EarthDance Organic Farm School is seeking applicants for an AmeriCorps state position.  EarthDance sustainably grows food, farmers, and community, one small farm at a time, through hands-on education and delicious experiences.  EarthDance seeks to realize needed change in our nation’s food system by engaging individuals from all walks of life in sustainable agriculture.  Volunteers at EarthDance assist with fresh food production, youth programs, community education, and administrative tasks that build the organization’s capacity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of our community. The successful candidate for this position will recruit, train, manage, document, and celebrate community volunteers at EarthDance farm.

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Refining EarthDance’s volunteer management system
  • Conducting outreach in person and virtually to recruit diverse groups and individuals to serve as volunteers
  • Coordinating volunteer activities on the farm and at special events
  • Leading volunteer orientations and directing volunteers during service events
  • Following up with volunteer groups and individuals to build lasting volunteer relationships
  • Tracking volunteer participation
  • Updating EarthDance’s volunteer management manual

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous volunteer service
  • Experience working outdoors in adverse conditions (heat, humidity, insects, rain etc.)
  • Experience working with diverse groups (students, retirees, religious and professional groups, etc)
  • Demonstrated time management and organization skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a demanding, high-energy environment and manage multiple tasks and priorities, while maintaining a sense of humor
  • Experience working effectively as part of a team
  • Professional, friendly, and enthusiastic personality
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example, with a strong work ethic, compassion and integrity

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of agricultural and food system issues.
  • Experience in horticulture and/or agriculture
